Dr. Athanasios (Thanos) Porfyris holds a Diploma in Chemical Engineering since 2009 and a PhD in Chemical Engineering since 2017. He is a member of the PolymeReEng group since 2008, when he started his Diploma Thesis on the synthesis of long-segment aliphatic polyamides in the solid state. His PhD Thesis focused on direct solid state poly-condensation (DSSP) of semi-aromatic polyamide salts and was in collaboration with DSM Materials Reasearch R&D. Since 2010, he also contributes in the demonstration of several laboratory/workshop exercises. His research activity focuses on solid state polyamidation (SSP) processes, biodegradable polyesters and flame retardancy of polyolefins. His scientific work has been published in peer reviewed journals like Macromolecular Materials and Engineering, Polymer Testing and Journal of Applied Polymer Science, and has presented his research work in international conferences. He also holds 2 international Patents.
